What are the best nutrition/diet/protein/energy supplements, drinks, or bars for dieting or for working out?

Ive been working out for about 2 months now, 3 times a week.Im looking for something that can help improve my body by feeding me all the right vitamins and or proteins that i need for that extra boost. So, Sometime soon Im stopping by my local GNC store and i was wondering if there are any particular supplements that you guys get that can help improve your overall results??

I suppose everyone has their own opinion but personally I think supplements are a waste… There is no evidence that they work for everyone the same way and you may end up wasting alot of time and money… There are many of us that went to small and skinny to awesome physiques just by lifting weights and eating right…

NOTHING compares to eating right, High quality proteins, fiber and Carbs.. Personally I do use 100% Whey Protein just for that added protein in the day but I get all my energy just from eating right..

A multi-vitamin once a day is always a good idea as well..

If there is a great muscle building formula out there though, I would like to hear of it as well..

Fitness Supplements

The health conscious population of today looks for means of working to achieve a perfect body that is fit and healthy. This is possible by following a daily routine of exercise and diet, and some fitness supplements. It is not a must to take a fitness supplement; however with its help, it is possible to become lean and strong with the boost and turbo charge it provides you in your fitness program. With a fitness supplement, you can get off to a fast start in your body building routine. Different ingredients go in the making of a fitness supplement to give you the turbo boost, and body you look for. One of the most commonly used ingredients is conjugated linoleic acid which is very effective in removing fat from the body. With CLA in the fitness supplement, you are assured of losing fat even if you don’t change anything else in the program. Chromium is another ingredient used in fitness supplements that is advised to be taken only if you have a deficiency of chromium in the body. Instead, take something with glutamine in it as this is very helpful in the recovery and growth of muscles.

With glutamine, you can find your recovery time from squats reduce to half the time. Moreover, you will not only feel better after heavy workouts, you can find improved results from your exercise program. Then there are the meal replacement powders that are the best choice for a sustained nutrition program. With a MRP, you find you have the foundation for the rest of the program. Protein powders are fitness supplements that are easily available in the market today. It is important that an athlete takes about a gram of protein per pound of body weight while the average person needs less than half the amount. So if you are serious about being an athlete, protein is an important part of your diet. You also find protein bars that provide benefits similar to that of protein powders. However you have to choose the right bar from the wide number of protein bars available today as most of them are junk.

Creatine is found in fitness supplements to help in the faster contraction of muscles during recovery. With this, you get bigger and stronger muscles. This is why Creatine should be taken by the serious, hard training athlete. However, if you don’t have a hard training program, then this will be a waste of money to you. There are many companies offering fitness supplements with different ingredients, which produce different effects to the body. It is up to you to choose the right fitness supplement for you, depending on your needs and budgets. Remember that fat burners and thermogenics don’t do any magic; they only help in getting rid of your fat. Use fitness supplements while following a strict diet and exercise routine to get excellent results. It is always better to consult with your physical trainer and doctor about taking fitness supplements to avoid any side effects that may arise from the fitness supplement.

MMA weight loss question!?

Hey everyone!

I’m switching from playing college football, I was a defensive end, to doing mma fighting. I wresled in hs and have a tae kwon do black belt and a brown belt in judo and would love to learn mui tai, kempo and more wrestling skills, but i weight way too much for the sport and I CAN’T SEEM TO LOOSE A POUND! so…

I wanted to get some smart opinions on what my nutritional intake should be while I’m on a fairly intense workout regimen that I’m currently doing. So my over all goal of my diet/work out is to loose excess fat, while increasing muscle (at least maintaining I would like to keep what I’ve worked damn hard to make).

ME:

Height – 6′3"
Weight – 285 (I was a defensive linemen, think Julius Peppers not pudgy fat kid)
BMI – 35.6 (BMI is bull **** but thought I’d put it in)

Workout:

Mon – Wed – Fri
-Rowing machine, bike and elliptical trainer (I do 5 mins of each for 30 min rotating)
-Shoulder, Back and Leg weight training
-20 mins in the sauna (feels great and supposed to help loose water weight)

Tue – Thur – Sat
-Sprints (4-200 yards 4 100 yards and 4 50 yards)
-Chest, Triceps, Biceps and ab weight training
-20 mins on the heavy bag and jump rope
-10 mins in sauna

Sun – OFF!

Right now I’m taking tons of supplements. One 60 gram of protein shake a day, one sustained release protein shake before bed, 2 30 gram of protein bars a day, nano vapor, cell tech, intravol, L-Glutatmine tabs, hydroxycut hardcore (got it free, not sold on it) and a amino 3000mg pill. Thinking of doing a beginner cutting stack, but doubt I will.

My goal weight would be around 235-240 by October, maybe September.
So let me know the last piece, the nutrition. Total daily calorie fat protein and carb intake! Right now I’m in the 260-290 range for protein. Thanks!!

Wow, i dont ever think ive had this problem to answer :) you have great cardio and muscle strength, but your right to fight at Heavy weight you need to lose 20 LB(but you can cut 10 if you have min of 8% body fat) and a man with as much muscle mass as you is going to have a hard time with this but i have a few ideas. ok first of all no more heavy lifting this is only going to give you high muscle mass keep it to light loads and high reps medium sets. next im sure with your experience you have a good diet so im sure you have high protein and min carb with low simple carbs this is the best for now but make sure your getting Inositol,Choline,C and all of your B vitamins they help with weight reduction. next and the biggest Long cardio not short sprints, for MMA we need lots of cardio and it is the cardio you’ve been doing (short but many sprints) but the longer you can go at 60-70%(and this number is important) for min of 45 min will reduce your weight and im sure you will hate it at first but its the only way to healthy lose weight look at long distance runners they all are lean and skinny and sprinters are lean and built (wide receivers vs defensive Ends) so if you do all this and have min of 8% body fat after that the day before your fight you can cut max of 10 lb and still be a monster after your body gets use to this weight you can go back to the heavy lifting.(im sure with your experience as a wrestler you can cut weight higher than 10 but in MMA its the best if you dont cut to much let you body be your guide). And for Muay thai or kempo i recommend Muay thai or boxing they will work better with judo and wrestling. enjoy

Since you played football in college I assume that you know that your lifts should be heavy and compound. You have a very good base I’m sure, so I’d be doing at least 2 of your lifts a week in the 1-5 rep range to further develop maximal strength, and then a different lift with 50-60%RM weights lifted as quickly as possible to develop rate of force (important in mma).

As for cutting weight:

First off if you don’t have any competition coming up, I’d take out all the supplements, you don’t need any of them, they’re very expensive, and most will hinder you from losing weight. You also seem to be doing a LOT of eating. Cut back on that. Continue a balanced diet, just make your portions smaller. You’ll still get all the nutrients you need without the supplements.

Are you trying to cut to 205? If not, then you should probably stay at 265, since that’s the cutoff for heavyweight in most mma organizations. My further advice would be to do more rounds on the heavy bag to help your form as well as give you some HIIT exercise, which burns fat better than aerobic exercise. Best of luck, and if you have any further questions you can PM me if you like.
