What disadvantages is there from just getting everything from supplements?

I am a collegiate track/CC athlete, and I don’t have much time or money to have a balanced diet, so I use supplements to make up for what i miss. I still eat plenty of carbs/fats. I take a supplement called MegaMens sport vitapacks which has 7 pills with just about everything. I also have a protein shake daily with about 30g of protein (amplified wheybolic extreme). The rest of my diet usually consists of pizza, pasta, cereal, milk, water, turkey/pb&j sandwiches. What should I add to this?

How can I get a retail store to carry a nutritional supplement that I designed and had manufactured?

Hi Everyone! I have really been thinking about making my own nutritional supplement. I have been an athlete my whole life and want to create something that is tailored to what myself and my teammates feel is important as far as supplements go. The problem is, while I have a company lined up to manufacture my product and I am working on getting incorporated, I have no idea how to get my product out to the market. I have never worked at a vitamin store or health food store (just retail clothing!) so I don’t know what their process is as far as agreeing to carry some one’s product. I really feel that its a great idea, but I am so nervous to go ahead with having it manufactured because I don’t know how to approach the store owners or how I will get it out to the public. If anyone works for a vitamin or health food store and knows how the process works, I would really really appreciate any feedback you have and how I could get a store interested in carrying my product and would it be totally impossible to do that given all the huge brands that currently offer products through these stores. Thank you so much!!!!

You said it. Your product doesn’t have a name or reputation yet, and you’re going up against huge corporations that sell their products to vitamin stores for low dollar. It’s going to be really hard to compete against known name brands.

It’s like me trying to make a new soda and compete against Pepsi or Coca-Cola.

Nutritional question.?

I work with somebody that recently starting body building … the serious kind. He plans on competing and all that mess. So he reads all the muscle magazines and takes advice from them as if it were a doctor prescribing him medicine. He eats 7-8 meals a day. Each meal consists of about 6-8 oz. of turkey or chicken, along with that he takes createne, protein supplements, and amino acids.

I’ve tried to tell him that the body can possible utilize that much protein in a given day. He must be taking in 400+ grams of it with out counting the amino acids. Being an athlete myself I know he’s going way overboard, and most likely a majority of that protein goes down the toilet.

Well here’s my question, exactly what amount of protein does an average body use a day, and what about an athlete? He’s also thinking about starting some new diet/supplement plan for some kind of competition. It’s obviously a marketing scheme, the diet includes their suplements. Is a diet like this even healthy?

An average person needs around 1.2 g protein for every kg bodyweight per day

a hard working athlete up to 2.0 g /kg

some studies suggest with huge amounts of weight training use maybe of the order of 2.8-3.0 g /kg per day

that means a 100 kg (or 220 lb) intense professional weight trainer might use 280g -300g of protein a day – the rest yeah is going down the toilet!!
