My grandmother is 89 and both soy and lactose sensitive. she has been taking Enshure shakes for the last few years but has found them to make her feel bloated and uncomfortable. I worry about her weight loss and nutritional needs being met without them. I’ve been thinking perhaps almond breeze mixed with a protien powder and a liquid vitamin supplement. Any insight out there? Thank you.
You might want to just google search it or something & see what comes up-like maybe put in "enshure shake replacement".

Does anyone know of a soy & lactose free alternative to Enshure nutritional shakes?

Is it possible to live on nothing but nutritional shakes, vitamins, and minerals?
If the whole point of eating food is to absorb the nutrients into your body wouldn’t it make more sense to just directly consume the pure nutrients? Wouldn’t eating lots of vitamins and nutritional shakes provide you with all of your body’s necessary nutrients? Nutritional supplements don’t contain any excess fat, sugar, or calories like most regular food. What is there in food that still requires our body to consume it?
if you look at it from a systematic point of view yes. though people are more than machines. we have emotions to deal with. and why eat pure nutriants when real food tastes so much more delicious.

If nutritional supplements are "dangerous", then where are the bodies?
A counter-question to Dave question.
(OMNS, January 19, 2010) There was not even one death caused by a dietary supplement in 2008, according to the most recent information collected by the U.S. National Poison Data System. The new 174-page annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers, published in the journal Clinical Toxicology, shows zero deaths from multiple vitamins; zero deaths from any of the B vitamins; zero deaths from vitamins A, C, D, or E; and zero deaths from any other vitamin.
Additionally, there were no deaths whatsoever from any amino acid or herbal product. This means no deaths at all from blue cohosh, echinacea, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, kava kava, St. John’s wort, valerian, yohimbe, Asian medicines, ayurvedic medicines, or any other botanical. There were zero deaths from creatine, blue-green algae, glucosamine, chondroitin, melatonin, or any homeopathic remedies.
Furthermore, there were zero deaths in 2008 from any dietary mineral supplement. This means there were no fatalities from calcium, magnesium, chromium, zinc, colloidal silver, selenium, iron, or multi-mineral supplements. Two children died as a result of medical use of the antacid sodium bicarbonate. The other "Electrolyte and Mineral" category death was due to a man accidentally drinking sodium hydroxide, a highly toxic degreaser and drain-opener.
No man, woman or child died from nutritional supplements. Period.

Dave? . "homeopathy was responsible for over 500 hospitalizations in that year" ?????
You mean 500 hospitalizations from ingesting water? 500 hospitalizations from placebo effect?
If homeopathic remedies have "nothing" in them as you claim, you are contradicting yourself.
edit: Dave, I checked out the references and cannot find what you are referring to. Do you have the exact page it is on or link? Thanks
Edit: Dave, on page 929 I did find a chart that showed a 1.5% of incidents (which includes telephone calls) to the Poison Control regarding children ingesting Vitamins/Dietary/Homeopathy, (kids will pop just about anything into their mouths and their parents naturally call Poison Control….parents call Poison Control even if their kid gnaws on a dog bisquit) but I cannot find where Homeopathy is sorted out from the others and specifically resulting in hospitalization. Page please? Thanks.

Importance of Vitamin on our Lives
We all know that vitamins, like mineral, are very important part of function and good health of our body system. Many vitamins also serve individual purposes; the most usual way for vitamins to move properly is as cofactors in partnership with vitamins, minerals, nutrients and all other substances in our body such as enzymes. Some of the most vital processes take place in our body is result of Vitamins partnering with each other to reach certain affects, processes or all functions.
Two of the most basic and most powerful vitamin partnering with each other is group of eight vitamins, it makes up the nutritional powerhouses that are collectively called as Vitamin B complex and the group of three is known to be antioxidant vitamins. In addition to these, there are several varieties of other combinations as well of vitamins, which serve the essential purposes within the body for preserving health and enhancing function.
The vitamins, which makes Vitamin B complex has Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid or simply Folate), Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) and Biotin (Vitamin H). Vitamin B complex works on the overall body in terms of cognitive processes and emotional balance and stability in mind. Vitamin B complex is very essential for almost every function and process in our body.
The group of vitamins that is called as antioxidant group is made up of Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A. Each of these vitamins carries their own power, which is serving individual essential purposes in our body. But they serve best when they combine their strengths thus serving as antioxidants. Their essential function is to rid the body of the cell and tissue damaging free radicals, which had been associated with different degenerative processes and diseases including the effects of the basic aging process and the declining abilities of the mind.
Nutritional supplements could make sure that your body has sufficient amount of the nutrients it needs to support these important partnerships. Attention to nutrition is one of the most significant things you could do for the overall health of mind and body.
